…And This Little Piggy Won a Silver Key

Sharon Houchins' Pink Wire Pig

Sharon Houchins' Pink Wire Pig

This prized pink wire pig was made by my niece, Sharon Houchins, in her high school art class. Mutti thought of highlighting it on the Creative Arts Building page, so we’re going to do that too. It won a Silver Key from the Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards and was on exhibit in the Concourse Gallery at Minnesota’s College of Art and Design this past year. To put that in perspective, of the 1,279 individual artwork entries submitted, the jury awarded 126 Gold Keys, 156 Silver Keys, and 223 individual entry Honorable Mention Merit Awards. Good job Sharon!

I would also like to take a moment to remember Sharon’s guinea pig Sweetie who passed away this past week. Last fall, with the collection efforts of my niece and sister, Sweetie contributed in her own way to our gardening efforts, for which the plants in raised bed #4 also say “thank you.”
