Haiku Winner

The winner of the “Where’s Wildlife” contest was Ruthie Houchins. She’s an avid bird watcher and requested that her haiku be about birds or plants. She’s also my sister, so I know their eldest son is graduating. I thought I’d try to evoke that with her bird theme. It’s appropriate that a wildlife spotter has provided some shots of her own. Most will probably like her owl photos better than my haiku and I’m totally OK with that. The spring iris effect will wear off me soon enough.

Owl among branches

Owl eyes meet our gaze.
In seconds, a nest empty
matures our wonder.
